Cranbrook Institute of Science is regarded as Michigan’s premier natural history museum. Children of all ages will enjoy learning about scientific concepts that encourage investigation. Cranbrook House & Gardens is the former estate of Cranbrook’s founders, George and Ellen Booth. Enjoy FREE admission to all 40 acres of the gardens - featuring extensive plantings, fountains, statuary, lakes and streams - from spring through fall, courtesy of PNC Bank, All Seasons Independent Living, Neighborhood SEEN, and Roberts Restaurant Group. Stroll through the Sunken Garden, discover a garden folly on The Mountain, and take a moment to unwind by the Reflecting Pool. The gardens are open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Return to Cranbrook later this summer for a guided tour of Cranbrook House, an Arts & Crafts-style masterpiece designed by Albert Kahn. Inside the 1908 English-Tudor manor, docents will take you back in time to a golden era of craftsmanship, where you’ll discover handcrafted furniture, tapestries, tiles, stained glass, and other works of art. Cranbrook Art Museum is one of the first contemporary art museums in the United States, and the 1942 building is considered Eliel Saarinen’s final masterwork at Cranbrook. Today, they present original exhibitions and educational programming on modern and contemporary architecture, art, crafts, and design, as well as traveling exhibitions, films, workshops and lectures. Open now are the exhibitions Finland 100: The Cranbrook Connection, which examines the profound influence this country has had on the development of the arts in America, and Cranbrook: A New Domestic Landscape, which examines the role of designed objects that define and animate our interior environments and features work by recent alumni and Artists-in-Residence of Cranbrook Academy of Art.
